Maritime Cook Islands recently marked its second official appearance at Sea Japan, the nation’s premier international maritime exhibition held at Tokyo Big Sight. The return to the event signals the registry’s deepening commitment to the Japanese shipping community and serves as a cornerstone for the ongoing MCI Merchant Fleet Campaign. The delegation was led by Captain Kawase-san, MCI’s dedicated Japanese Agent, alongside Technical Manager Paul Jackson and Marketing Manager Katrina Matheson.
In the Japanese maritime sector, where long-term relationships and professional trust are paramount, having a dedicated agent is essential. Exhibiting alongside Captain Kawase-san allowed us to reinforce our local presence, ensuring Japanese owners and operators have a direct, culturally aligned link to MCI’s global services through a trusted local expert.
Decarbonization, innovation, and alternative fuels were common themes at the event this year, reflecting the industry’s rapid evolution. Technical Manager Paul Jackson was on hand to address specific technical queries, ensuring that fleet compliance keeps pace with these technological shifts and providing a reliable bridge between industry innovation and flag state requirements.
Another key focus at Sea Japan was the rise of Big Data and AI platforms, specifically how these tools can convert vast amounts of raw operational data into actionable insights for fleet managers. The exhibition also provided Paul Jackson a valuable opportunity to engage directly with equipment suppliers regarding technical matters that directly impact our fleet.
Participation in Sea Japan for the second time offered an invaluable platform to meet with key stakeholders- from shipbuilders to owners – to gain a more sophisticated understanding of the Japanese market’s specific needs.
