The Cook Islands plays key role in IMO Maritime Safety discussions

LONDON – The Cook Islands was represented by Rachele Andreani, at the 11th session of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Sub-Committee on Implementation of IMO Instruments (III), which convened from July 21-25, 2025. The session focused on advancing critical guidance documents that will inform significant updates to international maritime regulations.

The delegation was instrumental in the proceedings of several key working groups. Notably, the Cook Islands contributed to the Working Group on the Harmonized System of Survey and Certification (HSSC), which is tasked with refining a consistent and efficient global standard for vessel inspections.

Additionally, the delegation provided expert input to the working group developing new Guidelines for Port State Control. This initiative is fundamental to enhancing maritime safety, preventing marine pollution, and ensuring uniform compliance with international conventions.

The outcomes of this session will directly influence the evolution of international maritime law. The consistent and active participation of the Cook Islands underscores its commitment to the development of a robust and standardized global maritime regulatory framework.
