RAROTONGA, COOK ISLANDS – 9 October 2025 – The Government of the Cook Islands, through the Ministry of Transport’s Maritime Administration and associated agencies, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS). 

The audit, conducted from 29 September to 6 October 2025, marks a significant milestone in the Cook Islands’ continued commitment to strengthening maritime governance and demonstrates the proactive, collaborative spirit that underpins its relationship with the IMO.

IMSAS is a mandatory audit scheme established to promote accountability and transparency among IMO Member States. It provides an important mechanism for assessing national implementation of international maritime obligations, identifying opportunities for improvement, and enabling the IMO to deliver targeted technical assistance. Its ultimate aim is to ensure safer, cleaner, and more secure shipping worldwide by supporting Member States in fulfilling their duties as Flag, Port, and Coastal States.

As one of the South Pacific’s leading open registries, Maritime Cook Islands welcomed the opportunity to participate in this process and wishes to extend its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the IMO and the IMO audit team (Team Leader Mr. Watchara Chiemanukulkit (Thailand), Team member Mr. Arbind Kumar Choudhary (India), and Mr. Vasudeva Aji from the IMO Secretariat) for a rewarding and fruitful audit experience.
