Press Release: Maritime Cook Islands Appoints Graeme Whitfield as IT Manager

Maritime Cook Islands is pleased to announce the appointment of Graeme Whitfield as the new IT Manager. Graeme, originally from New Zealand, has been a permanent resident of the Cook Islands for nearly 30 years and has played an integral role in the nation’s digital development. He contributed to the establishment of the Cook Islands’ first internet connectivity, working with both a US company and Telecom Cook Islands.

With a career spanning 30 years in information technology, Graeme brings extensive expertise in network design and management, server and domain administration, and full-stack web application development. For 18 years, he was the owner and operator of Summerfield Systems, the largest IT company in Rarotonga at the time. Graeme’s experience also includes significant maritime-related projects, such as the development of the Bunkers and Wrecks Insurance processing system, which included certification and payment gateway integration.

In addition to his technical skills, Graeme has a strong background in business workflow analysis and process automation. He remains actively engaged with emerging technologies, particularly in the areas of process automation, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, ensuring he remains at the forefront of technological advancements.

Director Glenn Armstrong expressed confidence in Graeme’s appointment, stating, “Graeme’s extensive IT experience and deep understanding of the Cook Islands’ business landscape make him a valuable addition to our team. His background in digital transformation and process automation aligns well with our goals to enhance our IT capabilities and support our global maritime operations. Graeme’s comprehensive technical knowledge and insights into both established and emerging technologies will be instrumental as Maritime Cook Islands continues to strengthen its IT infrastructure and pursue innovation in the maritime sector. 

In his spare time, Graeme enjoys kitesurfing, outrigger canoeing, and surfing, activities that allow him to embrace the vibrant island lifestyle.
